- EZX-WRITE (tm) VERSION 2.3
-
- With each new version of EZX-WRITE, we have tried to improve its speed,
- power, and ease of use. With most programs, these seem to be mutually
- exclusive qualities. We disagree. An easy to use program must be fast
- AND powerful. Good program design and logical command structures are
- responsible for ease of use, not limited features.
-
- We hope you enjoy using EZX-WRITE Version 2.3. Here are the major changes
- from Version 2.2:
-
- *----------------------------------------------------------------------*
-
- Parameters:
-
- Program parameters are saved in a separate file. On startup, EZX-WRITE
- will look for a file called "EZXW.INI". It will look first in the
- current directory, and if not found, will search the path.
-
- You can load a new parameter file at any time, which means you could
- have different parameter files, with different margins settings,
- printer drivers, etc., for different situations: writing memos,
- correspondence, programming.
-
- All default settings can be set from within the program, so there is
- no longer a separate SETUP program.
-
- EZX-WRITE will also remember many prompts, including the directory mask,
- search string, file name to print, etc. from session to session if
- you have an active parameter file.
-
- So, for example, you could have a parameter file named
- "EZXW.INI" in your "word processing" subdirectory that would turn
- word wrap on, set autoindent off, set the left margin to 10, etc. In
- addition, EZX-WRITE would remember that in the last session you asked
- for a directory of "*.DOC", you searched for "invoice", and you saved
- a block of text to disk named "MEMO". When you start EZX-WRITE from this
- subdirectory, that parameter file would be loaded automatically.
-
- You could have another parameter file named "EZXW.INI" in your
- "programming" subdirectory that would turn word wrap off, set
- autoindent on, set the left margin to 1, etc. In addition, EZX-WRITE
- would remember that in the last session you asked for a directory of
- "*.PAS", you searched for "while", and you read a block from disk
- named "INCLUDE". When you start EZX-WRITE from this subdirectory, that
- parameter file would be loaded automatically.

- EZX-WRITE (tm) VERSION 2.3
-
-
- Macros:
-
- Record any sequence of keystrokes by pressing ALT-M. Type whatever
- you want, including text or commands, then press ALT-M again to stop
- recording. EZX-WRITE will prompt you for a number between 0 and 9, and
- a name for the new macro. You can then play back this macro by
- pressing ALT plus the number (ALT-1, ALT-2, etc.) or by highlighting
- the macro name from the Macro Menu. This allows you to easily create
- your own "customized" menu.
-
- You can save or load a group of 10 macros in a file from the Macro
- Menu. One macro could easily be configured to call up another file
- of 10 macros, etc., so this is not a restrictive limit.
-
- On program startup, EZX-WRITE will try to load EZXW.MAC by first
- searching the current directory, then the path. If EZXW.MAC
- contains a macro defined for ALT-0, that macro will automatically
- execute upon startup.
-
- So, for example, you could have a macro file named "EZXW.MAC" in
- your "programming" subdirectory that would run your compiler, search
- for errors, type in common programming constructs, etc. When you
- start EZXW from this directory, those macros would be loaded
- automatically. When you start EZXW from your "word processing"
- directory, a set of macros there could include a heading for your
- correspondence, a "sincerely yours" macro, etc.
-
-
- Run a program:
-
- In addition to ALT-S (shell to DOS), there is now also ^KG, which
- will prompt for a program to run, rather than just giving you a DOS
- prompt. This works really well from a macro, because the macro
- can't type at the DOS prompt.
-
-
- File load times have been reduced by as much as 50%.
-
-
- Reformatting:
-
- Up to six times faster than before. Preserves paragraph
- indents and double spaces following periods.
-
-
- Directory command:
-
- You can load a file from the directory display by highlighting it and
- pressing ENTER.
-
- Openfile (F3) accepts a wild card file name, and takes you to the
- directory display to pick a file.
